Why is accessible bodywork so important to us?

Utilizing the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired over the years, it is a part of my purpose to bring bodywork medicine back to marginalized communities (QTBIPOC, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Etc.). Giving back through massage was a vision I created while in massage school. I believe bodywork is the medicine our bodies need, and I want it to be accessible to everyone who needs it. Most people among marginalized communities don’t share this same belief, instead they believe massage and other forms of bodywork are a luxury, not knowing its true medicinal benefits. Unfortunately, because of this belief along with unstable income, systemic discrimination, etc. bodywork is often inaccessible.

Transgender, Non-binary, Gender Non-Conforming and other gender diverse folx are less likely to have stable income and face discrimination for simply existing. They avoid care & bodywork in fear of being harmed in a space that isn’t safe for them.

PGM (people of the global majority) deal with large amounts of oppression & racial injustice, that alone causes trauma and suffering. Self-care is often pushed aside because their #1 priority is to survive. Their quality of life is greatly decreased due these inequities.

Being exposed to this type of trauma on a regular basis has a negative impact on the body and the nervous system. It begins to manifest itself into restrictions, blockages, chronic pain, and more within the body. Bodywork has the abilty to hold space for each individual who uses its medicine and allow for true healing to take place.

My intention for this grant program is for BIPOC, QTBIPOC, Trans folx and other marginalized communities who reside in Cleveland or other surrounding areas, to have access to high quality bodywork at no, or little cost, to them.

Creating more gender affirming bodywork spaces is the goal!

How it works?

Donations help folks who aren't able to financially afford bodywork services. This allows my bodywork offerings to be more accessible. This fund prioritizes QTBIPOC (queer, trans, black, indigenous, people of color). If you are BIPOC and are not queer and/or trans, you may still access funds. At least 85% of people receiving bodywork through this Fund must be Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color. This means if you are white, you may still access funds but people of the global majority will come first depending on what the percentages are at any given time.

How you can help out?

If you are a current client wanting to show gratitude in the form of a “tip” I encourage you to donate to our Bodywork Fund instead. If you are someone who is financially privileged and want to donate to spaces/organizations who are fighting systemic oppression and you sit in a place of privilege, please consider donating.
